CT Licensing Requirements - Teen Drivers

16 and 17-year-old drivers must complete either A or B to get a Driver’s license.


Option A

30-Hour Course

 Notes

  • Must hold permit for four months before getting Driver’s License
  • Usually qualifies for an insurance discount

 

Classes

  • 15 two-hour Classes
  • Parent must attend one Class with student

 

Behind-the-Wheel

  • Minimum of 8 Hours of In-Car Lessons with a Driving School
  • At least 40 hours of supervised driving with parent or Driving School

 

Road Test

  • You can take your road test at our facility. For more information see “Driving Test” tab above.

Option B

8-Hour Course

Notes

  • Must hold permit for six months before getting driver’s license
  • Does not qualify for an insurance discount

 

Classes

  • 4 two-hour classes
  • Parent must attend one class with student

 

Behind-the-Wheel

  • At least 40 hours of supervised driving with parent or driving school
